Unexpected Anemone Blanda

Wind Flowers. These have come back this year. They have a hard time getting through the magnolia litter, but that may be what's keeping them through the summer. Usually, you wouldn't expect to see them survive our hot summers. And last year was particularly hot and dry.

Anemone sylvestris - Culture - seeded today in covered mini greenhouse box.

These seeds were placed in a mini greenhouse box in the basement about 2 months ago. They were watered only scarcely but remained covered with a slight crack for air. These were "seed exchange" seeds from NARGS 2010. Most all of them are hard to germinate, rock garden plants that require sandy loam soil. Photos are only for reference.

Penstemon and Anemone

Japanese Anemone had it's dead leaves sheared off with the weed whacker in December and it's new growth is 4" high.


Penstemon "Husker Red" is 4 years old now. Does'nt change it's off season look much at all from June to May.

Blue Bed Early Spring

Paperwhites are 2 - 3 weeks from blooming.
